Milking your content 🐮

🕹️ Content repurposing is the name of the game

Ready to play?🕹️

Happy weekend, internet friends!

Do you ever find yourself embracing your inner lazy person?

I know I do. After pouring time and energy into a project, all I want to do is milk those results for all they're worth—over and over again.

That’s why I’m excited about this week’s topic: content repurposing.

Main Quest❗️

Finding Your (re)Purpose

Long-form content takes time and energy to create. Once you’ve put in the work, it’s tempting to publish it, share it on social media once, and move on.

But will people actually read or watch it? Will they come just because you made it?

Most of the time, the answer is no.

If you only publish once, you’re leaving a lot on the table.

After your long-form content is out there, your next move should be: “How do I make it easier for people to access this?”

People don’t have short attention spans when consuming long content. But discovering it? That’s the challenge.

The key to grabbing their attention and getting them to dive into your content is to maximize your luck surface.

And the way to do that is by repurposing your content.

Here’s how you can repurpose your long-form content:

  1. Identify the gems: Find the parts that are either informative or entertaining.

  2. Create bite-sized content for the same platform:

    • If it’s a blog post, break it down into tweets or LinkedIn posts.

    • If it’s a YouTube video, chop it into Shorts or Instagram Reels.

Pro tip: LinkedIn is currently pushing vertical video with their algorithm. Time to claim your spot!

  1. Repurpose for different platforms:

    • Blog post → Explainer videos or a podcast episode on the topic.

    • Podcast → Tweets, LinkedIn posts, YouTube Shorts or Reels (if you use video), or blog posts.

    • YouTube videos → blog posts, tweets, or LinkedIn posts.

For marketers, this approach means going deep on one piece of content is justifiable. If you need to sell a big content idea to your boss or manager, start with how much evergreen content can be produced.

You get both quality and quantity.

When turning content into an X/Twitter thread, make sure each tweet stands strong on its own.

Each one should be repostable by itself, so sometimes it’s okay to achieve this by trimming the fat.

Let me show you what I mean. Here’s a passage from the a recent Lenny’s Newsletter interview with executive coach Joe Hudson:

The critical voice in your head is always wrong. Instead of trying to eliminate it, change how you relate to it. For example, try acknowledging the fear (“I see you’re scared, but I’ve got this”), engaging with humor, or simply dismissing it. The goal is to understand how different responses affect your experience and to manage the voice more effectively.

When you’re repurposing it for an X thread, here’s what it’ll look like:

You can see how people might repost the first tweet, but not the second—it lacks context. And that’s okay. You can trash the second tweet entirely.

If people are curious, they’ll engage or subscribe to your content.

Flow is everything. If it flows well, it’ll read well. And if it reads well, more people will stick around.

Not necessarily because it’s the best, but because it’s easy to read.

Don’t say you were a bit confused and sort of tired and a little depressed and somewhat annoyed. Be confused. Be tired. Be depressed. Be annoyed. Don’t hedge your prose with little timidities. Good writing is lean and confident.

Don’t ever go with the flow. Be the flow.

Cheat Codes🤑

  • Just got laid off and looking for a freelance gig? Reach out to people from other companies you’ve worked with before. For example, if you’re in biz-dev, reconnect with former customers—you might be surprised by the opportunities that come your way.

  • For DIY marketers: If you’re doing your own design work, investing in Canva PRO is worth every penny.

  • Launching a new product? Secure a subreddit for it early on. Whether you use it or not, it’s better to have it in your back pocket.

  • CleanShotX: The GOAT screenshot app. Seen those cool looking screenshots with colorful background social media? They use CleanShot.

  • Cleft: If you think better when you talk, this app is for you.
